The vacuum couch roll on the fourdrinier paper machine is located at the place where the web of the forming fabric is removed, which is the end point of the working stroke section of the forming fabric. At the same time, it is an active roller wrapped by the forming fabric to drive the forming fabric to move.

In the cylinder paper machine, it refers to a pair of extruding and dewatering elements formed by the cylinder mould or the net drum, and the web paper layer is taken away by the wet felt.

Vacuum couch roll, one of the papermaking machines, is located at the end of the wet end.

The couch roll of paper machine is the last dehydration device in the long wire section. After passing through the vacuum suction box, the wet web is further dehydrated on the couch to reach a certain degree of dryness and sufficient wet strength, so that it can be peeled off from the surface of the forming web and transferred to the press section smoothly. The dryness of the web to the couch is generally 12% - 18%, which can be increased to 18% - 25%.

The vacuum roller is composed of two parts: vacuum chamber and roll shell.

• Vacuum chamber: Generally made of tin bronze by centrifugal casting. When polyester mesh is used, copper shell coated with glue or stainless steel roller shell is used to prevent corrosion. The roller shell is full of countersunk round holes. The roller shell is connected with the transmission shaft, and the cantilever structure is designed for the need of changing the mesh.
• Roll shell: Single chamber cast iron structure is commonly used, but double type and three chamber are also available. Different vacuum degree can be used for multi chamber to save dynamic consumption. The upper edge and the inner surface of the roller shell are sealed by air bag and friction strip, and width adjustment device is set.
